Deshalb plädiere ich seit Jahren dafür, dass wer freie Software anbietet, diese aber nicht dokumentieren oder supporten will, es konsequenterweise besser lassen sollte die Software überhaupt anzubieten.

Alex, I don’t understand German, but from what I can see, I think you should ignore such emails. Obviously these people are just speaking without actually knowing the facts. I’ve been following your work since your first plugins, wp-table etc. From my perspective, your plugins should come standard with WordPress 🙂

What’s an email versus almost 100k downloads for ngg and more than 20k for WT? You do not need anything more to prove you’re a valuable support for wordPress. So forget about it and keep on the good work 😉

I wrote this email and you should be honest enough to admit that this wasn´t the only content. i was talking about some of those “programmers” i got into contact with in the past. i did make clear that i do not think of you in that way. true is that i said that there might be tendencies you might be on the way to becoming such a person. also true is that you did not answer to one of my technical questions. and the last point. @lothar: noone ever said that i would not be willing to pay for software, support or whatever. an answer could for example have been: no, this and that function is not available, but für € xxx i could provide you with a solution. instead you can even read in the forums: what else do you want to have from this kostenlose eierlegende wollmilchsau. sounds bitter to me, ironical.

eine unüberlegteres statement kann man schwer abgeben.
dass er selbst ne doku schreibt, und das als seinen “Preis” sieht – selber schuld.
rest assured that as soon as possible i´m gonna switch to a professional solution. i can accept that all of you – though few – commentators are totally overwhelmed to be able to present their weddings pix, views from the fourteen storey window or their old camaros through this oh so glorious plugin. but if you try to use this nextgen?-thing in a not so privatish hobbying way you first get no support at all and second get serious problems. this glorious plugin is for my 16 year old nephew. he´ll be keen to present the phat party he had last weekend. but that´s about it.
1. Was steht auf meine “About” Seite ? “If you send a support question about my plugins I won’t respond. I cannot handle support in my email (I’ve tried) so your best bet is to ask your question on the Forums”.
Warum schreibe ich so’n Schrott ? Weil ich für ca. 10.000 Nutzer keinen Email Support leisten kann und will.
2. Wenn man mir dann auch noch vorwirft ich solle doch mal was an der Doku tun, denn “Und spätestens an dieser Stelle lohnt es sich auch, darüber nachzudenken, welche Zeit der User darauf verwenden muss, die Software in Betrieb zu nehmen. Dessen Zeit ist nicht weniger wert als Deine.”
Dann fange ich fürchterlich an zu würgen…
3. Nach meinen freundlichen Hinweis im Forum zu posten, steht auch dort klar : “Ich schreibe gerne in Deutsch, aber ich möchte auch gerne die Probleme weltweit lösen, also bitte nur hier posten wer sich des Englischen nicht mächtig fühlt.”.
Scheinbar ist dein English nicht so schlecht, aber die Fragen aus der Email ins Forum zu kopieren muss ja reichen…

Keine Ahnung was in deinem Leben schief gelaufen ist, es wäre das Beste wenn du mein Plugin schnellstmöglichst entfernst, leider kann ich dich dazu nicht zwingen. Auch das ist OpenSource…

Okay so honestly Alex, don’t listen to Horny Horst. I have professionals using smugmug, pbase, other services rave about my website, which is really thanks to your plugin. I guess due to my age Horny Horst will say that I’ll I use it for is for posting pictures of my “phat party.” Bull. A Pulitzer prize winning photographer at a VERY competitive university for photojournalism specifically commented on my work and it’s presentation online. Now lets take a look at the 100k+ downloads and their implementations and compare it to HornyHorst’s?
Well I dunno, Alex your work is really quite good. It makes me furious that someone who disagrees wouldn’t just shut up and find a new plugin. Well, again, thanks. I’ve donated.

Dass Du auch nicht direkt so heftig hättest reagieren müssen, ist eine andere Sache. Also, bitte nimm meine Entschuldigung in aller Form zur Kenntnis. Ich bitte um Verzeihung.
Now that I got me an extensive overview of Alex’s work I must admit that I did him wrong. He was a litte overreacting though which led to sort of an escalation but it was me who set the point. So what I do now is to apologize for my – lately – harsh words. Alex, I’m sorry.

you’re doing a great job and I’m really happy to use your plugin. Counter-argument for Hornyhorst – our website http://www.electoralgeography.com (please don’t consider it as a link spam) uses your plugin not for “wedding pictures, views from the fourteen storey window or their old camaros” but electoral maps used for scientific (or semi-scientific) needs.
And this is really great solution for us (we don’t use any advanced GIS yet). I was going to thank you for NGG since we implemented the plugin but failed to find time. Now, however, I think it’s appropriate moment.

Naja, aber ohne Opensource, würden die gleichen meckern, warum man dafür bezahlen soll und fragen, ob man die Software nicht als Opensource veröffentlichen kann…
