I hate shared hosting… it’s a pain. Two days offline, Reason : “SQL load is to high…”. I didn’t get before any note, any warning, any message or email. They simply shut down the page. Great… Happy weekend

Shared hosts are a bit of a hit and miss…
One host that tries really hard to provide quality service is WebFaction ( http://www.webfaction.com )
Hi,
i have a small website and i can totally agree with you. Most of the hosters have to many users on her servers. All users are affected by one guy with a terrible script.
Especially the new trend to ‘unlimited’ space/traffic is the death of high performance websites.
The only way is an own dedicated server
I couldn’t agree more with you.
Both on the Shared Hosting thing … and the Happy Weekend 🙂
Thank you for the AWESOME WP-plugin by the way.
I use it on my family website .. in danish .. sorry

You might want to look into a “Virtual Private Server” plan. They tend to be more expensive, but you get a virtual server all to yourself.
I have about 15 WP blogs running on mine… and it works like a champ.
Hey Buddy. I just emailed you my thoughts on this 🙂
I just can say good luck.
That’s why I got my own server! €800,- 2GB mem; 2x 2,66Ghz; 2x 500GB; 1000Mbp/s + Windows Home Server (ISS build in)!!!
I feel your pain. Almost the same thing happened to me twice in a month. For a project I’m working on the guys already had a domain and hosting arranged. But their server is sucky, and the support is zero. First time they shut it down, second time they disabled cron-jobs, and when our mass-mailing went out (and people would come and visit) the server went down (because of the load…?) In a weekend and of course the standard response via the helpdesk : nothing at all.
I’m going for dedicated hosting, that’s for sure.
btw, your plugin gets better and better

Yes, I feel a “home” server (Better with apache than Windows) is a good solution as long as you have enough bandwidth.
I use Site5 and I love them.

http://www.AmpleHosting.co.za is a good idea – been around for a long time and the service is good as well.
I use joyent/textdrive (www.joyent.com), there hosting is awesome cant fault it in anyway, the only time it goes down is when I have broken it myself.
They give you ssh access to the server which sometimes is incredibly handy to have, you get a lot of other things that you may not want however like svn repos, cron jobs, there control panel is webmin, maybe ugly but incredibly powerful, also they have phpmyadmin pre-installed for your use on each of there servers too.
I really cant fault them in anyway.
For a good shared host check out FanaticalHost.com and if you want to go with a VPS i recommend SuperBytes.net
I’m on site 5 and I love them too!!! After running on bluehost and dreamhost – now it’s working nearly everything !

I agree about godaddy – horrible company. i’ve never come across another provider that were so oppressive.
