  3. Hi Alex,

First thanks for this great plugin, its pretty rare to have such quality software maintained for that long 🙂 Thanks to you Alex !

I just downloaded the v1.7.0 rc 1 and will do some testing ASAP.

I did some work on NexGEN Gallery, adding features that I needed to be able to have a multi user environment, where each user could have a private place to upload to. How can I share these improvements so you could may be include them in a latter release, if you are interested ?

I added the following features :
    – Users can manage their own albums, galleries and pictures, they don’t see others album and galleries. The pictures are stored in a private folder.
    – Admins can manage pictures for others
    – new capability in the role page to chose the role to see private gallery
    – if private gallery flag is set, it will only be shown to the one who have the capability
    – in the overview page, a reports shows the number of galleries and pictures by users

The features I am currently working on are :
= RSS feed with GUID reference to enable interaction with cooliris
    – RSS feed to list albums per user
    – hierarchical view of albums to ease the management of nested albums
    – sortable albums
-upload feature using uploadify to directly import picture into an identified album from any page or post.

I am working on a plugin that integrate all these features using the cooliris interface, where it shows all the users and their albums.

it can be seen at http://www.versailles-images.fr/album-photo/

hope to hear from you soon,

    Jean-Luc

    Dear Alex,

you’ve done a great job, but why isn’t it possible to provide a link to the original (high resolution) image?

Would be great if you could implement that as well.

If I use the flashviewer for NextGen I get the error message that gallery.xml couldn’t be found. 😦

    Thanks
    Chantalle

hmm, the effects are not working for me anymore 😦
just the loading bar appears, even if i add separate thickbox plugin…

  6. Noman Ur Rehman says:

    Hi Alex,

This is a great plugin you have coded I must say, hats off :)…

However, I would like to ask you is it possible with the plugin to :

    1. Display some custom description text while the gallery is running as a slideshow ? Like the one you usually see on the websites that is a black png that shows through with some text on it. Something like this : http://www.unifypakistan.com/noman/slideshow/ Please look at the text on the images.

    2. Specify for how long a particular image shows when it is run as a slideshow.

    3. The transitions between the slideshow.

I think that is all I need to make it work on my website.

Please, if possible, send me an email.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Best regards,
    Noman.

    Hi Alex,

    first of all: great WP-plugin!
However, here’s a question: Could you make it possible to go to the next picure by pressing the arrow-key on the keyboard? As far as I know it is only possible to go to the next picture by mouseclick.

Thank you very much for NextGen!

  8. Piotr says:

Hi Alex, Thanks for great plugin. Please consider one thing. Then the gallery is updated save in database (in wp_ngg_gallery table) information about number of images in gallery (with and without excluded images). This will be increase usability this plugin in more advanced use cases. This will be fantastic.

  9. RockyMtnHi says:

Some, not all of the slideshow images are squished making them tall and thin. You can see this at http://www.coloradshutters.com. It is not consistent. I have the latest version 1.7.1 rc1 installed.

This is killing me and I need to get this fixed for my client. I have searched and browsed this forum and have not found a solid fix for it. I have tried all of the suggestions to no avail.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks for the help…

I upgrade and i’ve lost all my galleries !
I have an other site… How i can be sure to not loose all my galleries when i upgrade ?

  11. I have found an “issue” that I wish to report. For large galleries, pagination is added at the bottom of the gallery. To go to the next and previous pages, left and right arrow characters are used (#9658/25BA and #9668/25C4). On my Apple Mac Mini (OS-X 10.5.8, Safari 5.03) the left arrow for the previous page is not displaying. In fact, this character does not display for other sites either when using Safari, but there is no issue in Firefox thus indicating that the “bug” is not specific to nextgen. Consequently, I have a button with a big question mark on it. There is no problem displaying » and «

While this isn’t a flaw with your gallery, it is highly inconvenient that you are using characters that are not fully supported by Apple. Any of my clients that use a stock Apple setup will not see the gallery as displaying correctly. I will rewrite the PHP and fix this issue for my own use, but its a nuisance because any upgrade will simply delete my fixes.

    Thanks for a great product.

    *smiles* Tami

this plugin was working fine until wordpress 3.03 upgrade, now there is an error message and no images are recognized in the files as being uploaded, the error message seems to have problems with mutiple.php it reads /public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/images contains no pictures
    ERROR: dinah-65286.jpg :

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wpmu_enable_function() in /home/site/public_html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/multisite.php

  13. Arthur says:

Mmm, the slideshow works on my iPhone but not on my computer.
MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.5, Chrome, WP3.0.2. Also, keyboard slide advance would be great.

  14. Alan says:

@sheri. I’m having the exact same issue when uploading an image. I used to be able to upload images fine. Thanks for the tip that about the wordpress 3.0.3. I thought it was the new version nextGen that caused it (testing proved this not the case) The first error I get when uploading is:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wpmu_enable_function() in /home/site/public_html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/multisite.php

    and the second error is:

    /home/alan/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/8/files/fall_1 contains no pictures

  15. Alan says:

Temporary solution to the fatal error described by @Sheri and me above:

In nextgen-gallery/lib/multisite.php, on Line 21, I commented out this line:

    //if ( (is_multisite()) && wpmu_enable_function(‘wpmuQuotaCheck’))

It seems that this has to do with user quotas, which is not something I have to worry about in my installation. However, does anyone know if this could break something?

Thanks for the great plugin, Alex!

    Good evening,
The navigation with the keyboard and especially the possibility of classified albums in the increasing or lessening order would be excellent
    thank you

  17. Elemental says:

    Hello all,
Alex, thanks for a great plugin.

I am having issues with IE8 (Internet Explorer 8)

When I click on the thumbnails in the gallery,
the full sized image never loads.
I get a semi-opaque screen that says ‘LOADING’
and it never leaves, nor does the photo load.

This is in IE only, in all other browsers it works fine.

Now I am also noticing that the thumbnail images in my
album are loading sometimes, then at other times are not
    loading.

Anyone else have any problems like this??
Could it be related to the file path of the images?

I am using the standard setup of NextGEN, and my problem
    can be viewed here:

    http://www.demos.elementalmedia.biz/wp-gallery

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and have a great day.

  18. Elemental says:

    Found the culprit…

It wasn’t the plugin, but the images themselves

Instead of RGB, my client sent over CMYK jpegs,
which would not display in IE8.

Thanks to everyone’s previous input to help me
    determine what it WASN’T.

And remember, always check behind your clients
A hard lesson learned for me.

    Adiós!

Love your plugin and have used it for various blogs and
websites thru the years. For an example go to:

  20. Courtney Joy says:

Is there a way to break the Lightbox link and add my own custom link?

I’d like to keep the gallery thumbnail look so everything can be seen at once and then have each one link to their respective pages based on the project they were a part of.

  21. Bryan Bowers says:

Awesome plugin but I get a black background when uploading PNG-24 images w/transparent background. Any plans to support PNG or a workaround?

  22. Bryan Bowers says:

More complications. Cannot get gallery to display in 2 columns. Have tried both the new parameter setting “Number of columns” and the second option of adding the parameter “ngg_gal_Columns” to the Custom Fields. Both do not work.

and my lightbox doesn’t work. clicking view slideshow just spins.

    Your support is greatly appreciated.

  24. Christina says:

    Hi Alex,
Loving the NextGen but searching for the right add on or settings to create a hover effect over thumbnails, revealing a large view without the old school lightbox separation from the page. Examples of what I’m hoping for are what most stock photo sites use, istockphoto.com, sxc.hu, stockxchange.com, fotolia.com.
Hovering over thumbnails, without requiring on-click.

I used to do this with an old javascript, but I’m wondering, since you’re the author, if an add-on for this type of feature is out there?
    Thanks much!!!
    Chris

  25. Ingoubi says:

    Hi Alex,

I was trying to make five columns of the albums in a page, but it is not working. I have tried “ngg_gal_Columns” in the custom fields and kept 5 value in the value. So anyone help me please in solving this problem, specially Alex. Looking forward for someone reply.
