XML Sitemaps support

After a very very long break, I’m starting to work on the next version 1.8 of NextGEN Gallery. At first I’m looking for XML Sitemaps support. This should help for a better search results about images. I need to contact some author of Sitemap plugins, so I didn’t need to rewrite the same code again.

What is your preferred Sitemap plugin ?

This is great news!! Can’t wait for the update. 😉

I’m using Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress.
    See: http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/
    or: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

And since I’m writing here already: Thanks for NextGEN.

    Greetings,
    Dennis Ebben

Google sitemap generator here as well. It also notifies Bing/Yahoo of changes as well.

Table of contents creator works fairly well and is easy to implement. One minor thing is it hasn’t been updated in several months. However, it does work with 3.1 (well from what I read).

Also, thanks for making (& still developing) the NextGEN plugin.

I work specifically consulting with photographers. Their SEO needs are image based, and one of the largest challenges is producing enough pages with good keywords for SEO results. They would also be willing to pay for a plugin that gives them good results!

I use Google XML Sitemaps on a number of sites as well, but I’m thinking of switching to Yoast’s WordPress SEO.

When the sitemap generator is separated from SEO functionality, you end up with entries in your sitemap that are marked as noindex for SEO purposes. So the sitemap plugin really needs to be able to talk to a variety of popular SEO plugins.

The other problem with Google XML Sitemaps is it does not “out of the box” support custom post types. There is a modification for this, and support for Custom Post Types has been in beta for a long time without a final release.

Given that connecting with SEO plugins and supporting custom post types are 2 big additions, I see Yoast’s WordPress SEO having a big advantage – since he already has both of these bases covered.

The only reason why I haven’t switched already is there are other issues with WordPress SEO…

    Hi,

is it possible to change RSS feed to include thumbnail in feed as content (ie, in content).

Currently you put only tags in RSS, but some RSS readers can’t show media:thumbnail. They just show content of “content” tag…

    Bye!

    Google XML Sitemaps.

Even saw on some google help page that they linked to this plugin, so go for that one.

  16. GranPaSmurf says:

The [show as slideshow] doesn’t seem to work. Firefox or IE 8. Since I am only showing a couple of pix, I would like to just remove the link, but I don’t see how.
    BTW, the [PicLens] works fine.

  17. Cinoslaw says:

I’m using Google XML Sitemaps too 🙂

I’m using Google XML Sitemaps with multysite support

  19. Josh says:

I’m using Yoast’s WordPress SEO. Is it possible to support both that and Google XML Sitemaps?

  20. Mike McKoy says:

Using google XML sitemaps here. But I think if you support google and yoast you’ll cover most of wordpress that uses your plugin.

Will you be updating the permalink truly to something more url friendly? I think event the images should have url friendly file names.

  21. dhf says:

I’m using WordPress SEO from Yoost van der Valk

  22. Mike McKoy says:

Hey alex… so just curious… whats the ETA on the new sitemap support?

Indexing all these images we have would be such a great thing.

  23. SacModelleri says:

    Hi Alex,
I think for the Nextgen Gallery the most appropriate sitemap is in the link I am providing you I would like it to be the same if possible . If you can take a look and evaluate it for me I would appreciate it thank you

I’m using Google XML Sitemaps. But for images: sitemap xml imeges plugin.

  25. i981 says:

genau, google xml sitemap ist bei mehrere wordpresser benutzt

  26. QuietCat says:

I’m using WordPress SEO by Yoast on several sites, and just a few weeks ago he redid his XML sitemap code. I think now it is dynamically generated. But for you, what is important is that Image support is mentioned in its sitemap. Maybe you don’t need to do more than ensure that you’re compatible with Yoast’s plugin.

  27. Peter Dolley says:

    Hi

regarding sitemap and images. Will your sitemap function pickup all images in a WP site or only from a NCG Gallery.

    thanks Peter

Also I would like to see you NG Galley wih the ability to display a single column of imagages with test (quite a bit) to the RS. I don’t think it can do this now.

    Keep up the good work.
