WordPress 2.8 is on the way and I fixed therefore a couple of compat issues. You can help me now with testing the next release step V1.3.0. It should work as well under WordPress 2.7, but the design in the album page is already fitted to the UI of WordPress 2.8.
You mainly ask what is new ? I will write some more information at release date, you can have a first look at the change log here. Happy testing.

I’m nearly finished the next version. I will test it during this week and release then a final beta for one week.
New in the upcoming version is thanks to the help from Simone Fumagalli, that you manually can change your thumbnails. See some example at his homepage. Also I’ve included three new shortcodes for random, recent (THX to Bernhard) and a tag cloud (Example here).

Here is a new beta version, it should fix a couple of bug’s. Thanks already for the feedback, I’m still waiting for the release of WordPress 2.7, so it’s time for you to help a bit with testing and bug hunting.
Thanks for your feedback, I updated and fixes the latest known issues. There are still some open problems, would be good if you help to the this plugin. I updated now my live blogs to Version 1.00 without problems, I will still work now on style changes for the WordPress 2.7 Admin UI and wait for the final release..
So let’s roll the ball. Here is now NextGEN Gallery V1.0.0 for WordPress 2.7-Beta 1. I would be very happy if some of you give me some feedback about it, it will speed up the stability. If you test this at your blog, please backup, backup, backup the database before… the tags will be merged with the WP tags and not longer available when you downgrade to a older version.
Some note about the new features : I will release in the next days more details about the most important addons, read the changelog in the meantime. Please be so kind and report new errors at my google code project, it would help me to track the failures in the test period.
One final note : The new ImageMagick isn’t very good tested, my hoster didn’t allow exec() and the local test system doesn’t gives the same result.
So here is the list of changes for Version 0.80 of NextGEN Gallery :
1. Cache the SinglePic
Everytime a post is using a singlepic tag it require CPU power to generates the image, with the new cache option, NextGEN Gallery creates for each used SinglePic a file, which don’t require any CPU calculation time.
2. Support for permalinks
It’s maybe not the best solution for the SEO fanatic guys, but NextGEN gallery support now some rewrite rules as long as you have a mod_rewrite enabled WordPress installation.
3. Support for multi file batch upload
The fantastic SWFupload allows now a upload for multiple files at once by ctrl/shift-selecting in dialog and a progress bar during the upload. I integrates this at the moment only single images and not for the zip upload. You need a Adobe Flash for this option.
4. XMP, IPTC and EXIF meta data can now automatic imported
During the upload (and also later) you can populate the tags and description field with your Exif, IPTC or XMP data. NextGEN lookup first for XMP , then IPTC and at last for WinXP EXIF data. If some meta data are found then this information will be automatic used for the tags and description field.
5. Individual settings for a gallery and slideshow
For each post/page you can enter custom fields (look at the bottom of the edit page ). There you can enter any key / value for this post. I created a couple of parameters to override the global settings of the gallery/slideshow with local values. The picture is a example for two parameters (Sound file and rotate time for the slideshow). All parameters are listed here : http://nextgen.boelinger.com/custom-fields/
6. Up to 10 Widgets for random /recent gallery
I rewrite the Widget function to exclude galleries from your Random/Recent Widget. It support also the Sidebar manager from the K2 Theme
